Fansubs and Industry Panel @ Otakon 2008

From ANN:

At Otakon 2008, a new sort of industry panel took place. Attempting to bridge the gap between the American anime industry and the fansubbers that are increasingly overtaking them as the means fans use to get their anime, the panel hosted several prominent fansubbers (under their IRC pseudonyms) from groups LivEEviL (YaoiBoy), Shinsen Subs (GetFresh) and Dattebayo (Hishoburaiken and Interactii), along with Funimation’s Lance Heiskell, Media Blaster’s John Sirabella and MB production guru Sean Molyneaux. The panel was hosted by Ken Hoinsky from the new translation company MX Media.

It was a pretty damn interesting discussion, and heck, no fights were made :P. Decided to upload this video to Google Video as I didn’t really like ANN’s stream. Anyway, YaoiBoy sure looks weird, right ? :D

Bakuman online | Fujisawa Tohru’s new manga

th_bakumanjumpland Bakuman online | Fujisawa Tohrus new manga As you may know, Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi’s (Death Note authors) new manga about 2 students trying to make themselves mangaka, Bakuman, has been out for a while. JumpLand has made the first chapter available in 4 languages (english, german, japanese, french) on their site. So if you missed it or want it in a better quality, now you can go read it! Note: you must install their “browser” software first. via MangaBlog

/ Not sure about you guys, but I wasn’t really impressed, AT ALL, by this new manga. I didn’t expect this kind of story to be used, but heck, it might turn out good in the end. Wonder if they’ll ruin it halfway-through the series like they did with Death Note, hehe. /

toru Bakuman online | Fujisawa Tohrus new manga In other manga news, Fujisawa Tohru, of Great Teacher Onizuka fame, will have a new manga, as of yet unnamed, launched in the 43rd issue of Big Comic Spirits which will come out on September 22. His new manga as of December 2007, Animal Joe, is already running in that magazine. via ANN

Michiko to Hatchin Trailer looks good

When the first trailer got out, I wasn’t really impressed, but now, “WOW!” is all I can say. So this anime is basically about Michiko, a sexy diva who destroys a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, and Hatchin, a little girl that ran away from her strict parents. They join forces and set out on a journey to freedom! But they have a fair deal of obstacles, and a black bitch named Atsuko Jackson who stand in their way.

This series also has a pretty damn cool staff working on it:
Series script supervisor: Takashi Ujita (live-action Freesia film)
Character designer: Hiroshi Shimizu (animation director on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi)
Music composer: Kassin
Music producer: Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo)
Director: Sayo Yamamoto (episode director on Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy)
And as ANN says, the video also “emphasizes that this “next-generation collaboration of Latino beat animation” is the third original anime project from Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy’s manglobe studio.”

This anime is set to air in October, and WITHOUT A DOUBT, it has top priority on my watch list!

Make a manga-style avatar with FaceYourManga

reactive Make a manga-style avatar with FaceYourManga Discovered this site via Protaku and on the left you can see what came out. It’s a funny little site where you can generate yourself a manga-style face which you can use as an avatar or even get as a print for a small price. You have lots of stuff to chose from, ears, nose, hair, smile, moustache, suits, etc. (you can even make yourself something emo-style if that’s your thing, I KNOW IT IS! AHAHAHAHA!). Anyway, try it out and leave a comment with whatever got out of it :D.

How to enable UTF-8 encoding in mIRC

I’m a heavy mIRC user, I use it to chat, to get help, to download, etc., but that’s not important! I often find myself explaining to people how to enable UTF-8 encoding, especially for japanese characters encoding, in their mIRC clients, so I decided to write a little tutorial to make my life easier.

NOTE: This tutorial was made on Windows XP and mIRC version 6.33.

First things first, you must have East Asian Languages installed on your computer. Go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab. There, you’ll have to check the Install files for East Asian Languages, like in the image below.

Click for larger image

If it’s alreasy checked, you should be okay. If not, you’ll have to check it, and you’ll be asked for a Windows XP CD (pirated or not :P) from which it’ll get some files. When you’re done, click OK, DUUH!

Once you get that clear, you move to the mIRC application. There, you’ll have to do two things.

FIRST! Go to Tools menu item and click Options…. In the mIRC Options windows, on the left side, expand/collapse the IRC menu and click Messages. There, you’ll have to check 4 of the 6 lower boxes: Multibyte display, Multibyte editbox, UTF-8 display and Font Linking, as seen in the image below.

Now click OK and you’re done with the first step!

SECOND! In the very same menubar, go to View and click Font…. I recommend keeping the Fixedsys font as the default font, as it’s probably the best. But anyway, at the UTF-8 dropdown menu, click the Display and encode option, as seen in the image below. Then click OK, DUUH!

Well, that’s about it, simple right ?
UTF-8 BANZAAAAAAAI! \o/

Special note: If you’re dumb enough to NOT understand this tutorial, then mIRC is not for you.

20thcbmov020508-1 2nd 20th Century Boys movie & Afro Samurai live-action (WTF?)The second movie of the 20th Century Boys live-action trilogy adaption of Urasawa Naoki’s manga has been set for January 31, 2009 and the third and last movie is set for somewhere around the fall of 2009. The first movie will air this month, on the 30th. Airi Taira will play the main character Kenji’s niece Kanna, Yūsuke Santamaria will play Kenji’s classmate Sadakiyo, Naohito Fujiki will play Chōno, Arata Furuta will play Mio Haruna, and Eiko Koike will play Takasu. I’m not a big Japanese live-action movie fan, but I can’t wait to see this movie, be it either a FAIL or a MASTERPIECE. via ANN

andre 2nd 20th Century Boys movie & Afro Samurai live-action (WTF?)In other news, Samuel L. Jackson, the one who voiced Afro in the shitty “anime” Afro Samurai has in plan an Afro Samurai live-action movie. He won’t be playing the role of Afro though, just the role of the dead father. Who does he have in mind for Afro? Andre 3000, the rapper (on the left)! BLEHHH! He might be black and all, but he kinda has that silly face, then again Afro Samurai is CRAP, so it might work out for him. via First Showing

New anime revolving around the Kano Sisters

th_46995_200708060435155001186381446c New anime revolving around the Kano Sisters Neu Bauhaus, a Japanese consulting firm has informed ANN that the Production I.G. anime studio will announce the details of their new at Otakon, convention which will take place between August 8-10 in Baltimore, Maryland. Production I.G. will be partnering with Fuji TV on this one.
I don’t really know what to say about this, because at the moment I’m just thinking “ANIME WITH HAWT GIRL WITH GINOURMOUS BEWBIEZ!” and nothing else, heck, who doesn’t ? :P Oh well, just a few more days till we find something out.
